Man beaten to death at a fair in UP's Sambhal

Moradabad - A man was allegedly beaten to death in a clash at a fair in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district. The incident took place on Wednesday night in the Chaudhary Sarai area of Sadar Kotwali police station.

The deceased, identified as Mohammad Sarwar (35), had come to visit his cousin Abid's house to attend the "neza fair" in their locality. The Neza fair is an age-old custom of Sambhal, in which the newly married couples are brought to the stage and the locals offer gifts and blessings to them. It is celebrated every year and locals from all over the district participate in the event.

According to the reports, Abid had some altercation with a group of men outside his house which escalated to heated arguments between them. When Sarwar intervened and tried to calm the situation, he was brutally thrashed by the men. He had sustained serious injuries and was taken to a private hospital where the doctor declared him dead.

SP Sambhal Chakresh Mishra told TOI that, “After a minor altercation, there was a clash between the two parties and the incident of murder of a man who had come to intervene has come to fore. The accused assailants are absconding and a case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC. The probe is on to nab the culprits.”
