PILIBHIT: Traffic movement on Bhind-Lipulekh NH-731 was blocked by locals for two hours on Monday morning in protest against the theft of valuables worth Rs 20 lakh from a jewellery store located in front of Barkhera police station.

The demonstration ended after CO Bisalpur, Manoj Kumar Yadav, gave assurance that prompt action will be taken in the matter. SP Atul Sharma has assigned a special operations group (SOG) and a surveillance team to investigate the case. The SHO and the night patrolling officer of the concerned police station will also be questioned regarding security lapse, the SP said.

In the police complaint, Rajiv Kumar Rastogi, the shop owner, stated that the robbers broke open a hole in the wall to enter the store and looted cash worth Rs 2.43 lakh and gold, silver ornaments valuing around Rs 17-18 lakh. He came to know about the incident on Monday morning when he reached the store.

SHO Udaiveer Singh said, “An FIR against anonymous persons has been lodged under IPC section 457 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night in order to commit offence) and 380 (theft).”
