Insect found in liquor bottle, consumer files plaint

SHAHJAHANPUR: A complaint has been filed in the excise department by a consumer after an

insect

was found in a sealed bottle of a branded foreign

whisky

in Shahjahanpur. The bottle was allegedly purchased from the store of one

in Katra town of the district.


The consumer initially made a complaint at the store but the shopkeeper allegedly misbehaved with him. The district excise officer has setup an enquiry into this complaint. On the other hand, the seller has claimed that he has not sold the bottle and the buyer doesn’t have a bill for the purchase.

The consumer, Navneet Sharma told TOI,"I had purchased the bottle of “Imperial Blue” whisky from the shop of Siddharth Gupta in Katra but before opening the bottle, I saw an insect in the sealed bottle, so I returned to the shop and asked for the bill but the shopkeeper refused to provide me the bill. Even I had an argument and there were many eyewitnesses for the same. Now I have made a complaint to the excise department and waiting for their response."

Siddharth Gupta, owner of the shop, said, “We had not sold this particular bottle and hence we couldn’t do anything. Since the insect was found in a sealed bottle, the consumer can file a complaint against the liquor company.”

District excise officer Jitendra Kumar told TOI," A consumer has found an insect inside a sealed liquor bottle. We are investigating the complaint at present."

Thousands of litres of adulterated liquor and fake labels have been seized in

Shahjahanpur district

in the past few months and local police have cracked half a dozen cases of adulterated bottling of liquor recently.
