BAREILLY: A 40-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a speeding mini truck at Naythu village in Badaun district on Sunday morning.
According to police, while her cattle were grazing in the field, victim Chandravati Devi sat on the roadside when a speeding mini truck hit her. The truck driver rushed her to the district hospital and fled thereupon.
Police sent the body for autopsy after lodging an FIR against the driver.
Devi’s husband Rajendra Kumar, a labourer in Delhi, said, “The driver dumped her near the hospital gate and then informed me about the incident over phone. In view of her critical condition, doctors referred her to a Bareilly private hospital. But, she succumbed on her way to Bareilly.”
Station house officer (SHO) of Alapur police station Krishna Gopal Sharma said, “It appears that the accused knows the victim’s family. There is a possibility that the accused belongs to the deceased’s village. We are investigating the matter.”
“Following Rajendra’s complaint, an FIR was registered against the driver under sections 279 (rash driving), 304A (causing death by negligence) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of IPC. We are conducting raids to nab the driver,” said SHO.
