SHAHJAHANPUR: Shahjahanpur police on Friday morning arrested a history sheeter, Anand Chandra, from Shahjahanpur railway station after getting a tip-off. Chandra had been absconding for the past two years, is accused in cases of robbery and attempt to murder and carried a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head.
The bounty had been announced on him by SSP Shahjahanpur S Chinappa.
Shahjahanpur and Hardoi police have been desperately searching for Chandra, who has carried out various robberies in the past two years and had attempted to kill a person once during a loot in Allahaganj area of Shahjahanpur in 2017. He was charged under the Gangster Act.
On Friday morning, Crime Intelligence Wing (CIW) and SHO, Sindhauli police station, nabbed him while he was going to board a train. Chandra had been constantly changing his location to dodge cops. The reward on him will be shared by Sindhauli police (a part of Shahjahanpur police) and the CIW.
Chinnapa said, “Getting all notorious criminals behind the bars is our priority and I am happy that history sheeter Anand Chandra was arrested today. The details have been shared with the police department of Hardoi district, where he had committed a few crimes."
