Family of dead sub-inspector says station officer was ‘careless’
Bareilly: A day after a sub-inspector (SI) was killed and his colleague sustained bullet injuries during a gun battle with armed assailants in Badaun, the family of the dead officer, Sarvesh Yadav, said it was the station officer’s (SO) 'carelessness' which led to his death. The family also said that they were disappointed with the UP government for not announcing any compensation for them. Inspector general (Bareilly zone) Vijay Singh Meena said a probe will be ordered into the incident and he will also write to higher authorities for a compensation of Rs 20 lakh and a job for a family member. According to the police, the incident took place on Wednesday night when information about three dreaded criminals being holed up near Ghatbeti village under Binawar police station was received. “One of them had a criminal record and two policemen were sent to nab them. But the miscreants were heavily armed and fired several shots at the cops. The policemen sustained bullet injuries, leading to SI Yadav’s death,” said Sunil Saxena, senior superintendent of police (SSP), Badaun. Yadav, a native of Ahramayi village in Etah, and constable Pramod Kumar were referred to a private hospital in Bareilly. While Yadav was declared dead, the condition of Kumar is said to be stable. Satya Dev Yadav, a relative of Yadav, said, “When police received information about three miscreants, they should have sent a strong team to handle the situation. Also, the two officials were asked to go on a motorbike, leaving them all the more vulnerable.” Umesh Kumar, Yadav‘s brother, said, “If a person is lynched by a mob, he is given Rs 50 lakh as compensation and accommodation is provided for his kin too. My brother, who is a martyr, also deserves a fair compensation.” One of the miscreants, identified as Kaloo, a native of Pehra Chowki Samrer village under Dataganj, was nabbed after he was injured in the crossfire. “He is being treated at a hospital while our police teams are trying to catch the two other associates,” said Saxena.Senior police officials, including IG and DIG (name?) paid tributes to Yadav on Thursday morning at Police Lines.
