Drunk students go berserk at MJP varsity bash, held
BAREILLY: Police have arrested two final year B Tech students of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule (MJP) Rohilkhand University for indulging in violence at varsity’s farewell party on Monday evening.
The students in drunken state reportedly beat up fellow students and allegedly thrashed two other people. The students reportedly also fired shots in the hostel located in the campus.
As per the reports, the farewell party was going on in the campus when two final year students of Bachelors of Technology (B Tech), Upendra Rajput (26) and Prabhakar Rajput (26), created nuisance in the party after they got drunk.
Both the students allegedly beat up a fellow student and misbehaved with some other students, who lodged an FIR against them.
The police arrived at the campus and arrested the duo.
“A case has been lodged against the two under sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code (IPC). We have arrested both the accused,” said inspector Mohammed Qasim, Baradari police station.
When contacted, prof A K Gupta, dean, Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), Mahatma Jyotiba Phule (MJP) Rohilkhand University said, “Though the students do not own gun, they brought it from outside. As I am not authorized to suspend students. I will write to vice-chancellor, registrar and chief proctor to take strict action against the accused students.
“Such acts defame the whole university and if proper measures are not taken, it encourages other students to indulge in violent activities,” said Gupta.
