BAREILLY: There seems to be no end to to attacks by stray dogs in the district. A minor was attacked by a stray dog at Har Harpur village under Hafisganj police station and was left with a severely injured eye. The dog fled after the child’s mother raised an alarm. Victim was rushed to the district hospital.
Muskan, a six-year-old victim, sustained serious injuries after a stray dog attacked her on Saturday afternoon while she was on her way home in Har Harpur locality along with her mother. Both were walking when the incident occurred.
The child is undergoing treatment in a private hospital after she was referred to a higher medical centre by the district health officials who gave her first aid.
According to Gulshan, Muskan’s mother, a stray dog suddenly came from behind and pounced upon her. The child lost her balance and fell on the ground while dog attacked her on the face and in the process injured her left eye. The dog ran away after her mother raised an alarm, attracting attention of passersby who rushed to help the duo.
The victim was rushed to the district hospital where doctors gave her first aid and referred her to a higher centre. Later family members took her to a private hospital where her treatment is going on.
Local residents claimed that stray dogs often attacked passersby and on Saturday alone, more than 12 people were bitten by the same dog. Mohammad Ayaz a local, claimed that in spite of several complaints to officials concerned, no action had been taken against strays.
A veterinarian, Dr Alok Saxena, said, “Dogs feeding on raw flesh are more dangerous and both children and elderly are likely to fall prey to these dogs. It is advisable not to allow street dogs to eat raw flesh as it increases their tendency to attack humans. All shops selling or those using meat should not be allowed to throw flesh or bones in the open. Locals should check this.”
