Dad strangles, pours toilet cleaner on girl for ‘honour’

Bareilly: Hours after a newly-married woman, 25, was found in a naked condition, with nearly 40% burns on the Delhi-Lucknow highway, police arrested her father, Totaram Singh and brother-in-law Dinesh Kumar for trying to murder her for “family honour”. Two other alleged accomplices in the crime, also family members, have been booked and are on the run.The woman, strangled, assaulted and left for dead by her family, miraculously managed to survive. “She is not in a position to record her statement yet but her condition has improved,” additional SP, Rajkumar Agarwal, said.
According to police, the woman, the youngest of five siblings, had quit her studies after finishing school. Her father is a farmer and all her elder sisters are married.
