'I’m making nearly 60 skin-friendly and reusable masks a day'

Shivani Gupta, a resident of Rampur Garden and boutique owner
'I noticed that security guards, sweepers, sanitation workers and maids in my locality were going about their work without wearing masks. So, I made 15 masks overnight with the fabric lying in my boutique. I distributed all 15 to those in need the next day and then contacted local NGOs for help. Now, I’m making nearly 60 skin-friendly and reusable masks a day, all by myself. The residents in our colony and the nearby colonies have now starting using these masks.'

I saw people in densely populated areas without any masks. It was scary’

Bela Swaroop, a resident of Rampur Garden and boutique owner
'I had gone to some economically deprived areas with members of a local NGO to distribute ration among the poor. That is when I saw people living in densely populated areas, such as Baakarganj and Nekpur, without any masks. It was quite a scary sight. My tailors are not at work due to the lockdown, so I decided to make these masks myself from the leftover fabric. Besides those in need in my vicinity, I am giving these masks to an NGO, Choti Si Asha, which has access to more people.'

'I am making soft cotton masks to distribute among the underprivileged. I am also giving these masks to city-based NGOs, which shall be distributing them to watchmen, security guards, maids, sweepers and others at severe risk. These NGOs have collaborated with district administration and city police to reach out in rural areas and interiors.'

‘This lockdown may end but the need for masks will remain for longer’

Anshu Goel, a resident of CB Ganj
'I’m making khadi masks at home for those who can’t afford them. This lockdown might end in sometime but the scare of this pandemic and the need for masks will remain for longer. I am glad to see homemade and

DIY masks

being promoted everywhere.'
