CJM court grants seven-day remand of terror funding accused to UP ATS

Bareilly: CJM Lakhimpur Kheri has granted the remand custody of two accused named in terror funding case, Mumtaz Hussain and Faheem, to UP ATS for seven days on Saturday. Faheem was arrested by ATS from Bareilly while Mumtaz had surrendered in court on Friday.

UP ATS is trying to establish links in this case as it is suspected that the accused used to get funds transferred from African countries. Overall seven accused have been arrested in this case while one, Sadakat Ali, is still absconding. Sadakat has moved a surrender application in CJM court. He is expected to surrender on Monday.

ATS took the remand custody of Mumtaz and Faheem on Saturday and took them for medical examination. ATS would have seven days to gather information about other suspects from Nepal and India who are linked with terror funding and the actual source of money. They would also try to get information about the persons who received the money in Delhi and which terror organisation they belong to.

The issue of terror funding came to light after SHO Nighasan police station Deepak Shukla and crime branch team of Kheri nabbed four persons involved in money laundering and funding the terrorists on October 10.

All the accused were charged under IPC sections 109/121 (A), 420 and section 17 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the terror funding case. The accused allegedly used to collect money deposited into the accounts of people from Nepal and then forward the “funds” to their counterparts in Bareilly, who used to reportedly transfer the money to Delhi for “terror activities”. The account holders in Nepal used to get 5 % commission and the person who used to replace the Nepalese currency with the Indian one also used to get 5 %. This case was handed over to UP ATS by DGP O P Singh
