BJP’s Holi milan: Six leaders injured after stage collapses in Sambhal village

: UP vice-president of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Kisan Morcha and a former MLC were among six injured after a stage collapsed during a ‘Holi milan’ event organised at Sihabali village under Asmoli assembly constituency in

Sambhal district

on Friday.


The video of the incident is being shared widely on social media.

According to party workers, Dhwaja fair is organised every year in Sihabali village and thousands of people from the region visit the fair. BJP’s Kisan Morcha wing workers’ had organised a ‘Holi milan’ event at the fair on Saturday. BJP candidate from the Sambhal

seat Parmeshwar Lal Saini, state vice-president of BJP’s Kisan Morcha Avdesh Yadav and former MLC Chandrapal Singh were present on the stage when it collapsed.

Bhuvnesh Raghav, BJP’s regional secretary, who sustained hand and leg injuries, said, “As Avdesh Yadav is a popular leader in the area, more than 150 excited youths climbed on the stage to greet him, even as the stage had a capacity to accommodate 25 people. And thus, when a leader was addressing the gathering, the over-crowded stage suddenly collapsed.”

“As many as six people sustained injuries. Yadav sustained hip fracture and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital, while Chandrapal Singh sustained leg injury. Yadav will be operated upon in a couple of days,” said Raghav.

Raghav added, “Though Saini was standing next to Yadav, he escaped unhurt.”
