BAREILLY: More than two weeks after a student was caught replacing his answer sheet with a previously filled one during the first year MSc Chemistry exam, the authorities at Bareilly College have finally lodged an FIR in the case.
A case was registered under section 379 (theft) of the IPC. Principal of Bareilly College Somesh Yadav said, “We recently got information that few answer sheets were misplaced in the college.
As we want a transparent probe into the whole incident, we registered a police complaint.”
Mohammed Qasim, inspector Baradari police station, said, “We have asked store keepers of the college to provide the bureau with all the copies that were distributed among students – the used copies as well as the blank ones, which were returned back. When we will get the data, we will find out the person who was responsible for the whole fiasco.”
The cheating racket came to light during the verification of answer copies in the control room of Bareilly College after morning shift of examination got over on March 30. Vikram Singh Gangwar, a former student leader of Samajwadi Party Students' Union, was issued an answer booklet with the serial number 9532737 but the serial number of the answer sheet he submitted was 9458586.
The officials learnt that the copy with serial number 9458586 was issued to another batch of students during the afternoon shift of an exam on March 24 but at that time the officials did not realize that a booklet had gone missing.
Following the incident, the college authorities had formed a committee to probe the incident. However, the committee failed to figure out how copies were swapped and which staffer was involved in the racket.
