BAREILLY: A 23-year-old auto mechanic was arrested on Monday allegedly for praising Pakistan and making anti-India comments in a video that was uploaded on social media.

The accused, Asif Shah, is a resident of Nabinagar village located on the outskirts of the city. Shah's friends shot a video of him making the remarks and shared it online.

Leader of a right-wing group, Himanshu Patel, and another man, Anil Sharma, lodged separate police complaints against Shah following which an FIR was registered against him on Sunday night at the Bareilly Cantonment police station. He was arrested and sent to jail the next day. Cops said that Shah doesn't have a criminal history.

Circle officer of the area, Pankaj Kumar Srivastava, said, "The viral video was verified, and it was found to be genuine. Shah was booked under sections 196 (promoting enmity between two groups) and 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)."
