The deceased identified as Aarti was married to Dheeraj Rastogi in 2018. It was the second marriage of Aarti as her first husband had died few years ago while Dheeraj’s first wife lives in a separate house in Defence Colony.
Aarti was living in a rented house in Bareilly city and allegedly had a quarrel with Dheeraj on Friday night. Their landlord Neeraj Agarwal didn’t see any activity in the house throughout the day and Dheeraj was missing.
On Saturday night, Neeraj received a call from Aarti’s family as her phone was switched off. When Neeraj tried to call Aarti, he found the door locked. Upon removing the curtains of the window from outside, he found Aarti’s body lying inside the house.
He informed police and her parents. Superintendent of police (city) Abhinandan Singh arrived at the crime scene along with forensic experts. The body has been sent for autopsy.
Abhinandan Singh told TOI, “There were several injuries on the body caused by a sharp weapon, like knife, and the husband of the woman has been missing. The landlord told us that husband of the woman often used to beat her and the two used to often quarrel. We have sent a police team to search for the accused at his other house where his first wife lives. We are also trying to trace him at every possible location. We are waiting for the parents of the victim to arrive and an FIR would be filed on the basis of their complaint.”
