woman

displayed courage and patience after being shot by an ‘obsessive lover’ on Thursday afternoon as she walked a distance of 1 km despite being seriously injured before taking a lift from a motorcycle rider to reach the hospital.

The woman, a resident of Bhojipura tehsil was living with her family after her divorce. As she was looking for a job, she stumbled upon a suitable opportunity at a private institute located on Bareilly-Nainital highway. She was scheduled to appear for an interview on Thursday. Regarding this, she asked one of her old acquaintances and a former colleague, Prem Kumar residing at Radha Kunj Colony to take her to the institute on his motorcycle, police sources told TOI.

After her interview, when she stepped outside, Prem stopped the motorcycle at a secluded spot and expressed desire to marry her. The lady turned down his proposal and instead asked him to continue driving. This enraged Prem, who whipped out a country made pistol and shot her.

Inspector, Bhojipura police station, J P Yadav told TOI, “The woman displayed immense courage and presence of mind to deal with the predicament. Now, her treatment is underway. The accused was obsessed with her ever since they worked together at a courier agency. We have lodged a case under Section 307(attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code against the man and he will soon be taken into custody.”
