3 Hindu Yuva Vahini men held for gangrape
BAREILLY: Police have arrested three members of the Hindu Yuva Vahini (HYV) for the gangrape of a woman and for also physically assaulting a sub-inspector inside a police station.
According to cops at Subhash Nagar police station, the woman's family came to the thana late on Monday night and claimed that she was gangraped by three men that evening. The 28-year-old woman’s kin alleged that HYV members – Jitendra Sharma, Pankaj Pathak and Avinash alias Anshu – barged into their house and gangraped the married woman. They have been named in the FIR.
Police said that the Hindu Yuva Vahini men also assaulted sub-inspector Mayank Arora at the police station. Soon after that, the three were arrested on Monday night and sent to jail on Tuesday.
Police have lodged two separate FIRs against the HYV members on the basis of complaints of the woman and the sub-inspector who was assaulted. They have been booked for the gangrape of the woman and also for voluntarily causing hurt and assaulting a public servant from discharge of his duty.
Bareilly city BJP chief Umesh Katheriya said, “I have informed senior party leaders of both BJP and HYV in Lucknow about the incident.”
State secretary of HYV, Narender Tomar, told TOI, “Our organisation has ordered an inquiry into the matter and we will verify the allegations levied by police and the woman from our own sources. If allegations are found to be true, we will sack them from the organization. But if it comes to light that our workers were framed under a conspiracy, we will protest against police and the administration.”
