CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: A 17-year-old boy, preparing for his Std X board exams, died on the spot after a bull gored him during an illegal bullfight at Alegao village in Nanded's Kandhar taluka on Sunday evening.
Police identified the victim as Khandu Ramchandra Jhampalwad, who belonged to a family of sugar cane cutters. "His parents work as daily wage workers. He often assisted them in farm activity while preparing for his SSC exams despite financial challenges," an officer said.
People who had gathered to witness the bullfight said the accident took place during the final round when one of the bulls suddenly went out of control and charged towards the spectators. "Khandu, who was among them, was struck with force and died on the spot," a spectator said.
Nanded superintendent of police Abinash Kumar has directed the local police to register an FIR against both the organisers of the event and the bull owner. Earlier, assistant inspector Sanjay Nilpatrewar of the Usmannagar police said an accidental death (AD) case had been registered. "We have recorded the statement of the victim's cousin, who was with him at the time of the incident. Once the family files a complaint, we will register an FIR," he said.
Officers at the Usmannagar police station said any legal action would be taken after reviewing the complaint.
