AURANGABAD: B.A. Chopade, vice-chancellor, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada (BAMU) on Friday urged the teaching fraternity to work hard to ensure that the university is taken to new heights of achievement. He was speaking at a programme organized on the university campus to mark Teacher's Day. The university instituted nine Ideal Teachers awards from this year.

Bamu invited Osmanabad collector Prashant Narnawre to felicitate the nine ?ideal teachers'. Four teachers from the university's departments and five from affiliated colleges in four districts (under the university purview) were chosen for the awards.
BAMU registrar Dhanraj Mane said that the university has decided to select nine teachers, including four from the departments on the university campus, for the awards to acknowledge their contribution to their respective fields and the student community.
The university department teachers who were felicitated included Hameed Khan, professor, department of English, M D Shirsath (HoD, food technology department), Bharti Gavali (computer science) and Bapu Shingte (chemistry). The teachers from affiliated colleges who bagged the ideal teacher award included Narayan Borade (Matsyodari College, Jalna), S M Helambe (Deogiri College, Aurangabad), Milind Pandit (Arts, Science and Commerce college, Ambad), Sanjay Aswale (Chhatrapati Shivaji College, Omerga) and Vidyasagar Patangankar (Balbhim College, Beed). Mane said that this was the first effort to felicitate teachers after the university was granted A grade by the NAAC. He said a selection committee has been formed to examine and assess the contribution of teachers toward achieving excellence. The committee had chosen the nine teachers this year for the award, he said.
Hameed Khan, professor, department of English, BAMU, said a teacher has to make every possible effort to work for the academic growth of his/her students. A teacher's growth too is dependent on the growth of his students, he said. "By selecting me for the ideal teacher award, the university has burdened me with more responsibilities. I would ensure that my students grow and achieve higher goals," Khan said.
K V Kale, director, Board of College and University Development and Ulhas Udhan, the chancellor nominee on the management council, were also present at the programme.
The Aurangabad zilla parishad felicitated 62 school teachers for their exemplary contribution to the field of education at a programme organized at the Sant Tukaram Natyagraha in Cidco on Friday.
