AURANGABAD

: The ambitious

Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor

(

DMIC

) project in Shendra and Bidkin is awaiting an anchor company to kick start the state-of-the-art industrial township here to set the pace of development of the Marathwada region. The state government authorities are already in talks with four major industrial houses.

Earlier, Korean automobile giant Kia Motors Corporation was supposed to be the city’s anchor company. But, the firm decided to drop its Aurangabad plans and shifted to Andhra Pradesh instead.

“However, the hunt for new companies is on and we hope it we will soon yield good results. We are already negotiating terms with four well-known companies and hope to finalize at least one of them very soon,” said Gajanan Patil, joint managing director of

Aurangabad Industrial Township Limited

(AITL).

Patil, though refused to disclose names of these units, said that since Aurangabad is a hub for automobile industry, the new players are from the same sector. Patil also said that the authorities are negotiating with pharma companies and electronic goods manufacturers.

AITL claimed to have come a long way in development of the townships in the last one year. “We are building up infrastructure facilities in Shendra. Construction of a railway over bridge, water storage plant, network of roads, laying of underground electric cables, construction of main administrative block is in progress and most of these facilities would be ready within the next one year. These modern facilities would certainly attract the companies,” he said.

“Similarly, we will soon assign a contract to develop infrastructure in Bidkin with an investment of Rs 1,300 crore for which we have already received bids from three internationally reputed firms,” Patil added.

“The AITL is looking at companies that could invest above Rs 250 crore or generate not less than 500 jobs. Arrival of such players will also attract many other small players and the townships will see a rapid growth,” he said

To attract the companies, the authorities have announced special schemes and exemptions. The anchor company will enjoy special rebate in value added tax/good and services tax for a period of seven years. The rebate may go up to the level of investment cost.

“The promoters have offered to provide power to the anchor at a subsidized rate; special concession in electricity duty fees and discount in stamp duty among other benefits,” the joint director said.

AITL is a special purpose vehicle formed by

Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation

and Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC). The SVP is developing AURIC (Aurangabad Industrial City), the smart city, in Shendra and Bidkin industrial townships.
