Several areas lose road connectivity as rains again lash flood-hit Marathwada
CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: Several parts of Marathwada received heavy to very rainfall during the past 24 hours ended by Saturday morning, submerging many bridges and roads in the region and disrupting the road connectivity in many areas.
NDRF and other rescue teams have been mobilized in Dharashiv and some other parts which were already hit by floods early this week.
A total of 141 out of 420 revenue circles from have received heavy rainfall of more than 65 mm during past 24 hours ended by Saturday morning with Hadtoli (163 mm) and Andholi (132 mm) circles from Ahmedpur taluka of Latur district and Anala (115 mm) from Paranda taluka of Dharashiv district reporting maximum rainfall, show official data.
Among eight districts from Marathwada,
Latur (75 mm), Hingoli (66 mm), Parbhani (58 mm) , Dharashiv ( 54 mm), Nanded (51 mm) and Beed (41 mm) reported maximum showers.
Local district administration has declared holiday for schools in Beed and Latur.
All eight major dams catering to Marathwada have been overflowing causing swelling of Godavari River in different parts of Marathwada.
Nanded district disaster management officer Kishor Kurhe Patil said people living on the banks of Godavari River have been alerted. "The discharge from Vishnupuri dam from Nanded has increased to 1.25 lakh cusecs and it is expected to rise further due to overnight rains ," he said.
Marathwada has received 305 mm rainfall in September so far which is 204% of expected showers. Since June 1, the region has recorded 887 mm rainfall, which is 134% of expected rain. It had recorded 121% of expected showers during the corresponding period last year, show official data
