Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A 75-year-old woman, Mohini Joshi, foiled a chain-snatching attempt on Sunday morning by confronting two bike-borne snatchers in the Jyoti Nagar area when she had gone out to have darshan at the Mahadev temple on the occasion of Maha Shivratri.
"The duo was on a bike and slowed down their vehicle when nearing me. One of them, riding pillion, tried to snatch my chain, but I resisted. I hit him on his hand and pushed him. The duo fled the spot as I started shouting," the elderly woman said.
Soon after the incident, Joshi self-recorded a video warning other residents of Jyoti Nagar to remain aware. Her nephew, Rahul Joshi, said the presence of mind shown by his aunt was commendable.
"She confronted the chain snatchers and foiled their bid to steal her chain. The chain she was wearing was a gold-plated one, but she has special memories associated with it," he said.
When contacted, the Osmanpura police said they visited the spot where Joshi was targeted. "We have increased patrolling in the area after the incident. We would lodge an offence once a complaint is registered by Joshi or her relatives," Bhagwan Jagtap of the Osmanpura police said.
