Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Households across the city marked Gudi Padwa by hoisting Gudis and performing traditional rituals in decorated homes, exchanging festive greetings to usher in the Marathi new year."Gudi Padwa marks the beginning of Marathi new year. We bought a new panchang on the occasion that will guide us throughout the year," said Jyoti Pathak, a homemaker. The festive spirit translated into a surge in consumer activity, particularly in the electronics sector. Traders reported a significant uptick in sales as customers thronged markets to make big-ticket purchases."There was a rush since morning to purchase electronic appliances and different gadgets. Many customers were aware of possible price hikes from next month and therefore chose Gudi Padwa to buy their coveted items," said Ajay Shah, senior state vice president of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT). Automobile showrooms also witnessed heavy footfall, with a noticeable spike in vehicle registrations at the regional transport office over the past few weeks.Meanwhile, preparations for Eid are gathering pace, with the festival likely to be celebrated on Saturday, subject to the sighting of the moon. Local markets are bustling as residents gear up for the occasion. "Eid is the culmination of faith after a month-long fasting. The festival also strengthens bonding between families and society as a whole," said Mubeen Khan, a transporter. Gudi Padwa is considered an auspicious occasion that signifies the beginning of a new year and is symbolic of the triumph of good over evil, prosperity, and new beginnings
