Respecting, supporting women integral to our nation & culture: President Murmu
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: President of India Draupadi Murmu on Wednesday urged the country's men to recognise women's capabilities and assist them in realising their dreams, saying that respecting and supporting women is an integral part of the nation's identity. The President was addressing a gathering in Udgir of Latur district, after inaugurating the Vishwashanti Buddha Vihar at the location. Reflecting on the occasion, Murmu hailed state govt and said, "In the Indian culture, a lot of importance has been given to meditation. It has gained more prominence now due to stressful lifestyles. So, setting up this Buddha Vihar in such times is commendable."She further encouraged the country's male citizens to play a pivotal role in the movement aimed at empowering women. "I would like to tell all men that it is your duty to recognise the potential of women and support them in realising their dreams," she said, stressing that any obstacle placed in a woman's path is not just a personal hindrance, but a barrier to the progress of the entire nation."In our culture, the nation is revered as ‘Motherland', and respecting and supporting women is an essential part of who we are," she stated in her public address.Addressing the women, she said, "You are an inseparable part of this country. Women constitute half of the population, and just as you contribute to or lead in running your households, you must also contribute to the nation's progress. Women are not alone in this journey."Murmu went on to express satisfaction with various initiatives floated by the Union and the state govts for women. "I feel deep satisfaction knowing about all the initiatives taken for women's economic empowerment. Based on experience, it is said that under similar circumstances, women are often more adept than men at utilising family resources for the benefit of all."Elaborating on the far-reaching impact of educating and empowering women, she said, "It is believed that if you educate a man, you educate an individual; but if you educate a woman, you educate an entire family and future generations. The same holds true for economic empowerment. If women are economically empowered, the entire family and future generations will be, too."Murmu highlighted the remarkable progress in women's workforce participation in recent years, driven by increased self-confidence and governmental support, while reminding citizens that more needs to be done to foster active involvement of women in all sectors.During his address, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that if the ‘sisters' continue to support the Mahayuti govt, monetary assistance under the Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana will be increased to Rs3,000.Echoing him, deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis blamed the opposition for opposing the scheme. He even alleged that the person who challenged the scheme in High Court is a close confidante of state Congress president Nana Patole.
