Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who was in the city to lay the foundation stone of AURICs administrative building, said the project will be completed in a span of 24 months. Once completed, it will monitor and coordinate overall development of the SIIC, which is estimated to receive an investment of Rs 70,000 crore, thus generating employment for over 3 lakh people.
"The project costing Rs 8,000 crore would be completed in two phases with one phase to be developed in Shendra over an area of 9 sqkm. It will be completed by October 2018."
He added, "The second phase would come up at Bidkin in 2017 in an area of over 31 sqkm. Considering the huge work involved, it would be carried out in three phases, with each one getting completed in the consecutive years starting from 2020."
The CM announced that it would be information and communication technologies-operated and handled structure - sizing over 2 lakh sqmt.
"It would also be the first city in the country to be completely covered with wifi and also have first underground cabling system for industrial use, 24X7 cost effective energy supply, cent per cent underground drainage system, smart traffic management, smart grid and sustainable water management practices," said Fadnavis, adding the technology used in the city would be so advanced that neither a drop of water and nor a unit of power would get wasted.

The CM also said that entire city will have a walk-to-work concept, which would also be the first of its kind in the country. "Apurva Chandra, principal secretary (industries), has been given authority to give special dispensations to industries for attracting investment in AURIC. The Shendra Bidkin national highway would be completed by investing a sum of Rs 8,000 crore, out of which a considerable sum has already been given," said Fadnavis.
An official privy to the planning and execution of the project stated that the project would comprise 50 per cent residential and 50 per cent industrial area. "AITL will manage AURIC as an independent industrial township by leveraging smart technology and e-governance," said AITL managing director Vikram Kumar.
He said that almost 50 per cent of water that would be supplied to the industries here would be sourced from recycling and treating sewage water and the remaining 50 per cent would be lifted from water bodies.
