NGO organises solar building workshop for students
AURANGABAD: In order to nourish and nurture creativity, Deepshikha Foundation – NGO working for green cause organised a workshop to make solar cookers, for students of Onkar School, at Varah Mihir Science Centre in Wajarwadi village in Aurangabad taluka, on Sunday.
“The workshop was designed to create awareness in the young minds about alternative energy sources and their application in day to day life and focuses on learning by doing so that the ideas are converted into an action. The children were provided with the material required and were taught the basic science and functioning of the solar cooker,” said environmentalist Manisha Chaudhary.
“The students were encouraged to develop a means of cooking food using the free energy of the sun. The objective to organise solar cooker building workshop was to make children realise the value of alternate energy which is freely available and also helps in keeping the environment pollution-free,” she said. “Moreover, the attempt was to convince them that it is totally possible to build their own solar oven and nurture their skills,” she said. “They were taught to prepare parabolic cooker which involves a reflective dish that concentrates sunlight to a point where the food is cooked,” she said.
