Monsoon revival may reduce Marathwada’s rainfall deficiency

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The rainfall deficit of 23% in Marathwada is likely to come down as the region is likely to witness rain over the next 72 hours.On Saturday, several parts of Marathwada including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar received intermittent spells of light to moderate showers. Forecasts show that areas like Latur, Parbhani, Hingoli, Nanded and Osmanabad will receive more showers over the next three days.The city woke up to unusually dense cloud cover and recieved its first shower of the day around 12.30 pm which was followed by occassional spells of light to moderate rain throughout the day. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds at isolated places for the city and the districts of Jalna and Beed.According to official data, barring Nanded district, the remaining seven districts have reported deficient rainfall this monsoon during September. While Nanded district has recorded a surplus of 104% rain since June 1, Parbhani district has the highest — 42%— rain deficiency in the region, followed by Osmanabad and Latur districts (both 34%), Beed (33%), Jalna (28%), Aurangabad (21%) and Hingoli districts (20%).Parvez Patel, a farmer from Hingni Haveli village in Beed district said the latest rains have ensured survival of Kharif crops. “The absence of rain during the major portion of September had posed a threat to crops. However, the latest rains have resulted in conducive conditions again,” he said. The revived monsoon is expected to increase the level of various dams in the region, besides improving groundwater levels.

Marathwada develops 13% monsoon deficiency in Sept

Marathwada region in India is experiencing a 13% monsoon deficiency, with five out of eight districts having a rainfall shortfall. The weak monsoon has resulted in an overall rainfall deficiency of 24% during the current season. However, there is a possibility of light rainfall in the region for the next 72 hours, which could prevent stress in crops. The weak rainfall activity has also led to depleted groundwater levels and increased dependency on water tankers.

Light to moderate rain likely in Indore

Indore district in India has gone from a deficit to an excess rainfall category following recent heavy showers. The district has received 1269.8 mm (50 inches) of rainfall, exceeding its average of 845.7 mm (33.2 inches). Only six districts are yet to reach their average rainfall for the year. The neighboring districts of Barwani and Neemuch still have a deficit and are hoping for more rainfall to alleviate the shortage. The Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain in Indore and nearby districts.

Heavy rain batters districts of 2 divs

Several districts in Madhya Pradesh, including Alirajpur, Dhar, Ratlam, Khandwa, Khargone, Ujjain, and Mandsaur, have been hit by heavy rainfall in the past 48 hours. The downpour has disrupted normal life, with low-lying areas getting inundated and families being relocated to relief camps. Rivers have swelled, causing flood-like conditions in the region. The meteorological department has warned of heavy rainfall in some districts of Vidarbha, Maharashtra, and in north-western parts of Bihar. Delhi-NCR also experienced heavy rain, leading to a sudden change in weather.
