Mayor asks admin to prominently display sports complex name

AURANGABAD: Mayor Trimbak Tupe on Thursday directed the municipal administration to prominently display the name of the facility - Chatrapati Sambhaji Raje Market and sport complex. Tupe visited the civic body’s under-construction sport-cum-commercial complex at TV Centre Hudco in the city and spotted that the name of the project was not displayed prominently. Tupe asked the authorities concerned to the create space for the name plate at both the entrance point of the facility.

On February 7, 2014 while approving the project, the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation’s general body had passed a proposal to give Chatrapati Sambhaji Raje’s name to the complex.

The project was unique as the cash-strapped civic body had in open auction allotted the shops and other facilities instead of opting for a less productive built operate and transfer (BOT) model in three acres of the plot. The civic body had raised Rs 12.5 crore through the process. The AMC is developing the sports complex with 50 shops. The shops were leased out for a period of thirty years.
