AURANGABAD: A 59-year old woman with a travel history to Kazakastan and Russia has been tested positive for Covid-19, making her the first positive case from the eight districts of Marathwada region.
The development came to fore after the Pune-based National Institute of Virology on Sunday noon confirmed her tests to be positive for Covid-19.
The woman, who is currently being treated at a private hospital, is said to be stable and currently being under the watch of senior medicos from the said hospital, Aurangabad Municipal Corporation’s health officials as well as district health department.
Aurangabad district collector, Uday Choudhari, told TOI, "The woman has tested positive for Covid-19. The administration and the health department are taking adequate preventive measures and for now, there is not a need to press panic button.”
The health authorities informed that soon after her reports were received, the health department officials have started identifying her close relatives, all those have been in touch with her during past few days, her help, driver as well as others, are being made to opt for home quarantine.
Moreover, following the
World Health Organisation (WHO) norms, a team of health officials has been dispatched for quarantining the neighbouring houses in the locality she resides. Doctors have already recorded her travel history for sharing it with the administration, which would coordinate with the government for identifying her co-travelers, so that as a precautionary measure their health conditions too are monitored.
