Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange and his supporters experienced a harrowing incident in Beed when an elevator they were in plummeted from the first floor of a private hospital. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as those inside the lift activated the emergency button and were successfully rescued.

CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: An elevator carrying Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange and a group of his supporters fell from the first floor of a multi-storey private hospital in Beed on Sunday afternoon. No one was injured. Those inside the elevator were rescued after they pressed the emergency button.The incident occurred while Jarange was on his Beed tour, visiting the private hospital. CCTV footage inside the lift shows around half a dozen people, including Jarange, when the elevator suddenly collapsed with a bang.Maharudra Bade, a member of the hospital administration, said the elevator might have malfunctioned due to overloading. "When Jarange and people associated with him were going to the first floor using the elevator, we requested some of them to use the staircase to avoid overloading. Though some of them accepted our request, the elevator was possibly overloaded," he said.Jarange did not comment on the incident until Sunday evening. The quota activist had warned of a fresh agitation from Aug 29 to press for different demands related to Maratha reservation.
