Jayakwadi storage up, crosses 40%

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: With a steady inflow of 10,000 cusec, the live storage of Jayakwadi major irrigation project crossed the 40%-mark on Wednesday morning.Located in Paithan, around 45-km from here, the dam was showing 33% live storage on September 21. It, however, witnessed gradual revival over the past week amid revived monsoon conditions. “The Jayakwadi dam has received an inflow of around 18 TMC since June this year. We expect the storage to rise further if rainfall continues in the catchment areas as well as upstream regions of Nashik and Ahmednagar,” dam in-charge Vijay Kakde said.Meanwhile, widespread rainfall was observed in Marathwada on Wednesday which is expected to gradually boost the storage level in other dams. The region has 920 different irrigation projects which were showing combined live storage of around 36% on Wednesday. These reservoirs were showing much better 85% live storage during the corresponding period last year.Marathwada recorded an average 13mm rainfall between Tuesday and Wednesday morning with Parbhani, Hingoli (both 29mm), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (16mm), Jalna (15 mm), Dharashiv, Beed (both 7 mm), Nanded and Latur (both 5mm) receiving the showers. The region has reported 558 mm of rainfall since June 1 as against the expected 663 mm of showers — a 16% rainfall deficiency. Barring Latur and Dharashiv districts, the remaining six districts from Marathwada are likely to witness rainfall activity during the next 48 hours, as per official forecast of the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The Met office had issued a forecast of heavy rainfall for the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district on Wednesday, but no such downpour was witnessed within the city limits till late evening.

Monsoon revival may reduce Marathwadas rainfall deficiency

Marathwada in India is expected to receive rain over the next 72 hours, which will help reduce the 23% rainfall deficit in the region. Areas such as Latur, Parbhani, Hingoli, Nanded, and Osmanabad are forecasted to receive more showers. This rainfall is crucial for the survival of Kharif crops and is expected to increase dam levels and improve groundwater levels. Other regions in India, including Indore and various districts in Madhya Pradesh, have also experienced rainfall recently.

IMD forecasts isolated heavy rainfall for two days

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for the state of Kerala on Thursday and Friday. A cyclonic circulation is expected to form over the north Andaman Sea, which could lead to a low-pressure area and gradual intensification. Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur in many places in Kerala from September 27 to October 1. Yellow alerts have been issued for several districts. In addition, the IMD predicts heavy rainfall in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, south Gujarat, and parts of Maharashtra.

Flood alert sounded as KRP dam reaches maximum storage level

The Water Resources Department in Krishnagiri has issued a flood alert along the Thenpennai river pathway as the water level in the Krishnagiri Reservoir Project dam has reached 50.65 feet, just above its full capacity of 50 feet. The alert has been issued to neighboring districts, urging people living in low-lying areas to move to safer places. This is the second time this month that the dam has reached its maximum storage level. The dam is currently releasing water downstream to manage the excess.
