Initiative to inculcate reading habit among children
AURANGABAD: In an attempt to motivate children for inculcating
The initiative called ‘The Reading Challenge’ was a six weeks’ programme organized especially for children of Aurangabad. As many as 92 children in the age group of 5 and 14 years participated in the challenge.
The theme for the challenge was ‘Record Breakers’. The program concluded with the students' felicitation by the British Council for being ardent readers and successfully completing the challenge in six weeks. The enthused students were felicitated with certificates and medals.
Among the dignitaries present on the occasion were
Aparna Kakkad said that it had been a wonderful experience to join hands with British Council and host the Reading Challenge for the first time in Aurangabad. She also promised to bring more such programs to boost morale of the students.
The Reading Challenge was a six weeks program by British Council and The Reading Agency (UK). After registration, the students read minimum six theme–based books in the time span of six weeks which comes to one book in a week. The theme was designed to suit the children’s interest and age. The program encouraged the child to read at home exclusive books written and illustrated by UK authors and illustrators. The challenge encouraged the students to read the book and based on their understanding were expected to review the book.
