Increase width of service road along Beed Bypass: MLA
Aurangabad: Aurangabad West MLA Sanjay Shirsat has sought an increase in the width of the service road along the crucial Beed bypass.
The MLA had met the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) commissioner on Thursday to seek the civic body’s action regarding the matter. According to Shirsat, in view of the increasing traffic, the width of the service road should be increased by another 2.5metre thereby bringing the total width of the road to 7.5metre.
The MLA said that the municipal commissioner has agreed to his request to increase the width of the service road.“Of the funds approved for the project, about Rs 25 crore can be used for the acquisition of land required for the road widening. Acquisition of land will be carried out through the municipal corporation as the areas on both sides of the service road fall under municipal limits,” Shirsat said.
The work of widening the 9-10km stretch of the Beed bypass from Mahanubhav Ashram to Jhalta is under way. For that purpose, the municipal corporation is conducting an anti-encroachment drive. The project to construct and widen the road, at an estimated cost of Rs 306 crore, is being funded by the state government. The World Bank project division of the Public Works Department Aurangabad is implementing the project.
The tender process has been completed and the work order is likely to be issued on January 9 or 10. As part of the project, three flyovers and three vehicle underpasses will be built on the Beed bypass which passes through Aurangabad city. Incidentally, the road is used by residents of Satara and Deolai to travel to the city as well as by cargo trucks. The narrow width of the road has led to several accidents and even deaths in the past. Subsequently, the project of widening of the road was taken up.
