Heavy vehicles can enter Beed bypass

AURANGABAD: The order regarding entry of heavy vehicles on Beed Bypass road, which was restricted except during the permitted hours, has been cancelled by the new commissioner of police within days of taking charge.
As a solution to the problem, the city police chief has ordered installation of speed gun with a permissible limit of about 40km per hour and breathalysers at the Beed Bypass road, a 10km long highway between Mahanubhav Ashram and Jhalta Phata, which has remained in news for the frequent fatal accidents.
Perturbed by the the rising number of accidents, former Aurangabad commissioner of police Amitesh Kumar in April issued directives banning entry of heavy vehicles on the 10km long stretch between 7am and 10pm.
Aurangabad commissioner of police Yashasvi Yadav, said, “The transporters reached out to us raising the issue of heavy traffic during the afternoon hours and so we decided to call off the restriction and use technology to curb the accidents.”
“Any vehicle crossing the permissible limit, would be seized and the driver of the vehicle will have to get it released from the court. We will not let them off by merely slapping them with a fine,” said Yadav.
An officer said, “The permissible speed limit on highways usually remain at 60 km/hour, but Beed Bypass road will have a permissible limit of 40km/hour as it falls under the civic body.”
The officer also said that even in the cases of drunk driving, the drivers of heavy vehicles who are caught in an inebriated form, would be given a court challan and will have to be present in the court, which would decide on the action to be taken against such drivers.
