AURANGABAD: The police units across the region have deployed about 20, 000 policemen as part of security measures ahead of the Ganesh visarjan on Thursday.
In each of the eight districts of Marathwada, anti-eve-teasing squads, CCTV cameras, independent teams of the crime branch, special branch and the detection branch have been deployed. On an average, about 2,500 policemen have been deployed in each of the eight districts as well as Aurangabad commissionorate area.
As part of the preventive measure, those with the record of committing body or property offences during festivals have already been taken into preventive detention.

Fixed points have also been deployed in sensitive areas as well as at strategic locations so that the police can swiftly respond to any given situation.
In addition, acting in accordance with the state police headquarter directives, a close watch is being maintained on prospective candidates for the upcoming assembly elections so that they do not commit any ‘adventure’ for the sake of polarising votes or bagging headlines, resulting in law and order situation.
In terms of the security cover in the city, one company each of state reserve police force and rapid action force have been deployed along with 31 inspectors, 111 assistant and sub-inspectors, seven assistant commissioners, four deputy commissioners headed by the commissioner of police.
Senior police officials said that in places like Latur district where there is acute water crisis, special arrangements for idol immersion such as carrying the idols out of town or neighbouring areas districts, have been made. The Latur district police are closely coordinating with Beed, Ahmednagar, Parbhani and Osmanabad police to maintain law and order during Ganesh visarjan.
In Nanded district, over 4,000 policemen have been deployed, said an officer privy to the security team.
