Hardened criminals slapped with MPDA
AURANGABAD: Initiating stringent action against
To ensure smooth elections, police units across the state have launched a crackdown against criminal elements and depending on the gravity of their individual criminal records, are initiating strict preventive action.
The Act applies to slumlords, bootleggers, drug offenders, dangerous persons and video pirates, as specified in its title. Once arrested under the act and if the same gets sanctioned, the accused remains behind bars for at least one year.
The arrested accused are from Jalna and Beed district.
Scores of criminals have already been externed from the units across Marathwada and the police are currently mooting action against those who have been slapped with offences for upsetting law and order situations during previous elections.
The Beed district police, led by superintendent G Sreedhar, recently moved a proposal for arresting Nadya Sadashiv Wadmare, a resident of Indiranagar of Beed, under MPDA.
Considering the series of serious crimes, the proposal was sanctioned by the Beed district collector, following which the accused was arrested and was put behind bars at the Aurangabad central prison of Harsul on Sunday.
Similarly, the Jalna police, led by superintendent S Chaitanya, arrested Tanya Narayan Jadhav, a resident of Lohar Mohalla, Jalna.
