AURANGABAD: A 21-year old student who failed his first year of a homeopathy course was arrested on Sunday. He was earlier booked on charges of extortion, criminal intimidation and cheating after he pestered his girlfriend seeking compensation of the fees of the first year of the medicine course after failing the examinations. He claimed his failure was on account of his girlfriend, and she ought to compensate his parents who paid the fees for him.
“The accused, Omkar Pawar, hails from Beed district. He was arrested in his hometown. He was produced before the court on Sunday afternoon and remanded to three days police custody, which ends on Tuesday,” Begumpura inspector Narendra Jadhav told TOI.
The officer said the youth has been booked under sections of IPC and the Information and Technology Act.
Omkar Pawar had gained admission to the Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) course at an Aurangabad college last year. His girlfriend was his classmate. The suspect, though bright, did not focus on studies and failed in the first year, so he was denied admission to the second year of the four-year course. Upset, he squarely blamed his girlfriend for his poor results and asked that she compensate his parents for the fees paid in the first year of the course.
The girl, appalled, stopped talking with him and kept him at arm’s length. The man began to pester her with messages on the phone and repeated attempts to call her. Angry that she dumped him, he took to social media, saying things about her father and making vile posts about her family. He threatened that her pictures would be uploaded on social media too, so she was shamed.
Fed up, the woman confided in her family and approached Begumpura police with a complaint. The young man stayed in Aurangabad for a while after learning of his results in the first year, and then returned to Beed. The young woman has begun the second year of the course.
