Garden, clean premises alter hospital's drab look
AURANGABAD: Prior to June 2011, the hospital was popular as a filthy, dirty, foul smelling place always reeling under water shortage.
Today, the hospital boasts of a lush green lawn, 238 ornamental plants and trees including 25 rose plants, rock garden with water fountain. A mini park has also been developed for children with a swing, slide and a see-saw.

Civil surgeon Jadhav decided to change the ambience of the hospital. "When I joined, I found patients complaining about the lethargic attitude of the employees waiting for their duty hours to end. Lack of punctuality and seriousness in work assigned was rampant. There was no place for relatives to relax or rest," said Jadhav.
He decided to change the ambience. "When patients enter the premises they should feel good. Cleanliness and building enthusiasm among employees was taken up on priority. With their help a beautiful garden was developed in the open area of the hospital. The garden work took shape with the help of class IV employees within three months. We engaged them after duty hours and started developing the landscape," said Jadhav.
Support and goodwill from the local community helped. "We made progress in developing the ambience. An alternative water source was found by drilling a bore well and digging a well through the efforts of a donor," he said. Both sources went dry even in summer and it suffices the daily need of the hospital of 40,000 litres per day, Jadhav added.
"It gives immense satisfaction when we observe that the relatives, children and the patients feel good to enter the hospital campus. Relatives who had no proper place to sit now enjoy their lunch and dinner in the garden under trees," said the hospital staff.
The premises are kept clean after garbage bins were placed at intervals and also made sure that people visiting the hospital dump all the waste material in these bins, they added.
All these attempts led to keeping the premises spic and span, pooling of relatives from corridors to garden, regaining enthusiasm and punctuality amongst the employees and improvement of dedicated services. Everybody is with a relaxed mind leading to considerable efficiency! "After all it is the attitude than can bring a change for good," said Jadhav.
