AURANGABAD: The Ganesh Mahasangh Utsav Samiti Aurangabad, on Friday in the wake of 10-day Ganesh festival to begin from Monday urged the Aurangabad civic chief to ensure that the city’s street lights are well illuminated.
“With the absence of sufficient illumination on the road the devotees thronging to see decorated Ganesh mandals at various corners of the city would face inconvenience,” said samiti president Abhijit Deshmukh.
In a memorandum submitted to the civic chief, Omprakash Bokaria, Deshmukh complained that around 40% of the city’s streetlight is defunct. “They should be immediately repaired and made functioning so that the city’s streets are well illuminated during the festival period,” he said adding that with the city’s roads already in pathetic condition the defunct streetlights increases the woes of the pedestrians as well the the motorists.
He also urged the civic body to illuminate with decorative lights the city’s main chowks during the festival period as many devotees from nearby places visit Aurangabad to observe innovative decorations made by the Ganesh mandals.
