Finally, 7th pay commission resolution passed for civic staff
Aurangabad: The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) staff, along with the rest of staff in municipal bodies across the state, is delighted after a government resolution for the implementation of 7th pay commission from 2016 was issued. When asked how the cash-strapped civic body plans to implement it, municipal commissioner Nipun Vinayak said “god will show the way.”
The employees of the civic body were delighted after the government resolution announcing the implementation of the 7th pay commission for them was issued on Friday.
According to the resolution issued by the urban development department of the AMC, the employees of municipal bodies in the state will be eligible for the revised payment according to the pay commission recommendations from January 1, 2016. The changes should be reflected in the salaries by September 1, 2019, while the arrears from January 1, 2016, to August 31, 2019, are to be paid in five annual instalments.
It is expected that the civic body will soon comply with the resolution and pay the employees accordingly. Notably, when a similar resolution was issued by the state government for the implementation of 5th pay commission, the AMC had not complied immediately.
According to union leader and former corporator Krushna Bankar, after the government’s decision, the civic body has no room for escape and will have to comply. “We had to hold agitations to compel the civic body to revise the payments and clear the arrears according to the 5th pay commission last time. If the AMC does not implement it on time, we will again resort to stir,” Bankar said.
Incidentally, the civic administration has been citing its lack of funds for the execution of development works in the city. The civic body is often criticized for its failure to clear pending payments of its contractors.
When asked about the plan of implementation of the seventh pay commission for the corporation’s permanent employees, municipal commissioner Nipun Vinayak said that he is happy for the employees. About the concerns emerging due to lack of funds with the civic body, Vinayak said that god will show them the way.
