AURANGABAD: A key suspect wanted by the economic offences wing (EOW) in a case of extortion and cheating, Santosh Jadhav, surrendered on Monday.
The EOW is now concentrating its efforts to nab the remaining six suspects in the case.
Senior police inspector Avinash Aghav, who heads the city's economic offenses wing told TOI, "A group of seven suspects, including Santosh Jadhav, who surrendered today (Monday), had planned to transfer the ownership of Sai Residency Hotel near the railway station by forging documents."
"When their plan didn't work out, they started threatening the hotel owner - a woman named Neeta Mahesh Rana - of dire consequences and demanded Rs 20 lakh from her."
Aghav said that one of the suspects, Arun Borde, had nine offenses registered against him in police stations across the city.
The senior inspector said Santosh Jadhav's anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Aurangabad district and sessions court on Saturday after the EOW objected.
Running out of options, he surrendered on Monday, the police said.
