AURANGABAD: In memory of 524 Kargil War martyrs, NGOs and environmentalists in Aurangabad on Friday planted 200 trees at Kargil Smrutivan in Garkheda area. The drive was undertaken at the backdrop of mammoth task of planting two crore trees by the state government in its green initiative across the state. Last year, they had planted 200 plants of which 180 survived due to the efforts by senior citizens.

"Under the Maharashtra government's ambitious tree plantation drive to plant two crore saplings across the state on Friday, various NGOs in association with the Aurangabad division forest department planted over 200 saplings in memory of Kargil War heroes, at the Kargil Smritivan, situated in Garkheda area, in Aurangabad," said the deputy forest conservator, Aurangabad forest department, Ashok Girhepuje.

The NGOs including Aurangabad Tourism Promoters' Guild (TPG) and Prayas Foundation participated in the mega drive launched by the government and planted trees in memory of 524 Kargil war martyrs on Friday.
