Doctor, lawyer face-off over birth certificate

AURANGABAD: A city-based lawyer and a doctor couple have been booked following a cross-complaint against each-other about the issue of a second birth certificate for the lawyer's son.
The tussle had allegedly led to a verbal duel, which reportedly resulted in a physical fight.
A complaint registered at the Mukundwadi police station by Anant Kulkarni (43), a resident of Sandesh Nagar, stated that his wife Sandhya, both doctors, was working in Sant Eknath Hospital in Ulka Nagari and had attended delivery of one Sheetal Kale, wife of lawyer and prime suspect Atul Kale, on December 15, 2012.
Speaking to TOI, Kulkarni said, "As per routine, the birth report of the baby was forwarded to the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) soon after the birth. The couple failed to obtain the birth certificate from AMC that time and now, they want us to re-issue the same, which we cannot. Moreover, the hospital was closed around two years ago and Sandhya has now nothing to do with that hospital. Since they were not able to get it from AMC, the couple came to Chandrika nursing home in Sandesh Nagar of Garkheda, and picked up a quarrel with Sandhya on Monday evening. They targeted me and my aging father when we intervened into the matter. They abused us and manhandled me and my father after threatening to kill us."
In a cross complaint lodged with the same police station, Kale (36) a resident of Ulka Nagari, has accused the doctor couple and two others of assaulting him after he and his wife reached the hospital seeking a birth certificate of his child, which they allegedly hadn't issued at the time of birth. "Kulkarni hit him with some hard object in his head and also strangled him, but he somehow could escape from his clutches, thanks to his wife," stated the complaint.
