Cobra dumped by snake charmers on roadside rescued

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A cobra dumped by snake charmers, was rescued from the Sillod taluka of the city recently. Conservationist Santosh Patil said the reptile was packed in a cloth bag and left near a hotel on Bharadi Road.Patil said, “According to locals, the bag was lying abandoned for 2-3 days and nobody sensed that there was a snake inside. Somebody spotted movement in the bag and alerted us.The locals told the police that a small group of snake charmers were in the area recently. “The snake charmers held shows in public places and around schools and offices. They were carrying a total of four snakes and one of them was dumped after,” Patil told TOI.The rescued snake underwent moulting (skin-shedding) and therefore was very aggressive in nature. After keeping the creature under observation for some time, the rescued cobra was released into the natural habitat in the presence of the Forest Department officials.
