AURANGABAD: Bad weather conditions forced
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar and chief minister Prithviraj Chavan to call off their joint rally scheduled in Beed district on Monday.
On Sunday, the chopper carrying Pawar had to make an emergency landing in Ambejogai tehsil while he was on his way to Parbhani district.
Instead, Pawar reviewed the situation of villages across four tehsils of Beed, Parli, Ambejogai and Wadwani.
During his daylong visit, he visited over 15 villages in the district. He also went to Nathra, the village of BJP strongman and Beed MP Gopinath Munde. The NCP leaders said the joint rally was called off to acknowledge the losses suffered by the farmers in the region.
While talking to newsmenm, Pawar said the government would help the affected farmers in the region after taking due permission from the Election Commission.
He also said that he is hopeful of getting permission from the EC, as a similar situation had arised five years back in the country and the EC had granted permission for helping the farmers.
Pawar also assured that the concerned government departments would conduct panchnama (assessment) of the farms where standing crops were destroyed due to hailstorm and unseasonal rains.
He said that the high-level committee of the central government would begin its tour of Maharashtra as well Andhra Pradesh in a couple of days.
