Chandrapur couple held for buying baby from doctor
KOLHAPUR: A couple from Chandrapur district was arrested for allegedly buying a newborn baby from homeopath doctor Arun Patil, who is already in the custody of the Kolhapur police.
“The couple confessed to have bought the baby girl for Rs 2 lakh from Patil. The amount has been given as a fixed deposit in the name of the baby’s biological mother to which even Patil is a nominee. We have not come across any other financial transaction between Patil and the family,” said Suraj Pawar, inspector in-charge of Shivaji Nagar police station.
According to the police, Patil had handed over another baby to a couple from Nerul, Navi Mumbai, in May 2017. The couple has told the police that they legally adopted the baby. Police are yet to find the financial transactions between the couple and the homeopath doctor.
“They have submitted some documents to show that they have legally adopted the baby by completing all the formalities at the registrar office in Ichalkaranji. We are scrutinising the documents and will confirm their validity on Monday,” said Pawar.
