The incident took place on June 9 following heavy rainfall in parts of the city. Based on a complaint lodged by 35-year-old Asha Birare, police have booked the couple that owns the building on charges of causing death due to negligence and for mischief causing damage.

The woman complainant has alleged that the accused duo did not ensure construction of a quality wall due to which it fell and led to the death of the elderly woman.

The deceased - identified as Kamlabai Namdev Songire, a resident Radhaswami colony, Jatwada Road - was alone at home when the incident took place.

Following the incident, the locals had rushed to her rescue and after struggling for some time they managed to get her out of the debris. Songire was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.
