Assault on BJP worker: NCP MLA’s aide held

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Almost 20 days after an attempt on the life of a local BJP worker in Beed’s Majalgaon, the police have arrested NCP’s Majalgaon MLA Prakash Dada Solunke’s personal assistant Mahadu Solunke.
Police said after finding some “incriminating” technical evidence connecting Mahadu Solunke to the group of accused who attacked the BJP worker, he was summoned for questioning to the Kej police station. “After several hours of questioning, he was arrested late on Tuesday,” said an officer.
In the incident that took place on March 7, one Ashok Shejul was left injured. Based on his complaint, the MLA, his wife, their business partner and six to eight unidentified suspects were booked.
The alleged attack had left Shejul with fractured bones and multiple injuries. Shejul, in his statement to the police, said that in the past, he had filed complaints against the MLA, his wife and another person, for alleged misappropriations committed in a cooperative firm where she is the chairman. He also said the MLA is upset with him for a writ petition filed in the high court against him.
Considering the gravity of the case, the case was handed over to assistant superintendent of police Pankaj Kumawat, who, within three days of the FIR registration, arrested five accused identified as Avinash Gaikwad (26) of Punandgaon, Sandip Shelke (22), Subhash Kare (26), Sharad Kamble (29) all from Purushottampuri and Vijay Pawar. After initially remaining in police custody, the accused are under judicial custody.
