AURANGABAD: The students' council of the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (BAMU) on Saturday elected Karuna Jadhav, from the tourism department to the post of the general secretary.
"The election process was held in the administration building of the university and was conducted by the council headed by vice-chancellor Vijay Pandharipande between 11am and 1pm on Saturday," the university's public relations officer, Sanjay Shinde, said.
The other members of the council included decision officer Dhanraj Mane, who also holds the position of registrar in the university, the director of board of student welfare department, Chetna Sonkamble, and student representatives, Shinde said.
"As many as 41 of the 46 class representatives were present for voting. Only 40 votes were considered valid during, "Shinde said.
After counting process, which included four rounds, Karuna Jadhav won the post by bagging 19 votes.
Jadhav's competitors were Ansari Shahebaaz Meraz, Kamble Prashant Prakash, Mirza Rahatullah Baig Mirza Niyamatullah Baig, Paik Hanumant Bhagwan and Vavhale Nitin Dhondiba.
The vice chancellor felicitated the newly appointed general secretary and welcomed the decision.
