8 years after murdering man over property, couple get life term

CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: The district and sessions court, Aurangabad, has sentenced a couple in their 40s to life imprisonment for murdering a man with whom they had a long-pending property dispute.

Vishwas Asaram Shinde, who had been to his farm in Ohar, Harsul area, was brutally thrashed on March 14, 2015, resulting in his death.

On the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim’s widow, the Harsul police registered an FIR for rioting, unlawful assembly and murder against Sanjay Shankar Bhalkar, his wife Anita, his three brothers and their mother.

Special public prosecutor Rajendra Mugdia told TOI, “The victim had purchased a piece of land in Ohar villagesed from the relatives of the accused. The purchase resulted in a series of litigations and eventually enmity.”

Additional sessions judge NM Jamadar sentenced the couple and slapped them with a fine of Rs 10, 000 each. The court observed, “The accused duo severely beat up the deceased with an intention to cause such bodily injury, as they knew to be likely to cause death of the deceased. Therefore, they not only left the deceased in the field, but ensured that he would not be helped.”
